Comfort will kill your dreams
Risk is the only way forward!
Artist Michael Buus
Many years ago, a leap of faith led to leaving a position as head manager in a large textile company, a job that no longer brought joy. In 2001, this decision marked the beginning of a journey to discover another version of myself. The intention was to find a better balance between work and family and to avoid one day looking back and realizing it was too late to change. Being present while the children were growing up became the priority. And so it was.
Over time, the painting practice evolved. For many years, the focus was on figurative art, but this style often felt like a struggle, even though there was great success in selling this type of work. Alongside painting, spirituality grew stronger, with a deepening interest in personal development and meditation.
It became clear that when painting figuratively, the process was driven too much by the mind and ego, trying to create what was expected to be popular.
The focus then shifted to what arose from within, from the soul, and abstract art emerged. Years in the textile industry, always working with teenage and women’s wear, had developed a strong sense of color combinations. This experience now flows into the artwork. Sometimes the colors are soft and gentle; at other times they are bold and expressive.
Today, the paintings carry stories and messages. When a painting becomes more than just something hanging on a wall—when it brings calm, joy, or a moment of reflection—it has fulfilled its purpose. With every painting, a small piece of the artist is shared.
There is a belief that life on this earth is about learning and developing as a human being. Just as a strong person must train muscles to grow stronger, life requires developing abilities, especially in areas that do not come naturally. It might be patience, trust, self-love, or mental strength. This has been the focus for the last 20 years. It can be tough while standing in the middle of it, but nothing lasts forever, and on the other side of the storm, there is greater strength, having been stretched and shaped, better equipped to handle life's challenges.
The struggle in life builds our character.
